A British comedian has helped bring a Greek joke book from the 4th century to the modern world.Jim Bowen told many of the jokes to an audience for the “Philogelos: The Laugh Addict” project. He said many of the jokes, translated from what is believed to be the world’s oldest joke book by U.S. researcher William Berg, contain themes that continue to strike chords with modern audiences. “One or two of them are jokes I’ve seen in people’s’ acts nowadays, slightly updated,” Bowen said. “Philogelos: The Laugh Addict” is available at

NBC is pulling the plug on "My Own Worst Enemy" and "Lipstick Jungle," two of its more high-profile young series. Add Christian Slater and Brooke Shields to the list of actors with TV failures on their records.
Another dance show is coming to the small screen. E! Online reports the people behind "American Idol" and "So You Think You Can Dance" have developed a show called "Superstar Dancers of the World." Creator Nigel Lythgoe said the series will feature experts in different styles of dance from all over the world. He added, quote, "The sheer mosaic of styles and energy is going to be nothing short of amazing."
"Riverdance" star Michael Flatley is slated to host the show, which will air on NBC next year. Contestants will come from places like India, Argentina, Russia, and South Africa.

The USA Network has confirmed that “Monk” will soon be entering its final season. The network has ordered a final 16 episodes that will mark the eighth and final season for the series. The decision to conclude the long-running show was a mutual decision for all involved parties, sources say.

GUNS N' ROSES' long-awaited new album, "Chinese Democracy", officially hits store shelves on Sunday. The album will be released in the U.S. exclusively through Best Buy. Whoopi Goldberg is taking her "Sister Act" to London. The Oscar winning actress is set to open a musical version of her 1992 hit comedy "Sister Act" on London's West End next June. Casting for the show will be announced next year. Goldberg will produce the musical, which will feature music by eight-time Oscar winner Alan
Menken. Menken's credits include songs from a number of Disney productions including, "The Little Mermaid," "Beauty & The Beast," and "Aladdin."

Bon Jovi are planning a fall 2009 release for a greatest-hits album packaged with a DVD of footage from the Lost Highway tour. Guitarist Richie Sambora reports that he and singer Jon Bon Jovi are working on new material for the collection, as well as for a forthcoming studio effort. The axeman adds that his band's next album will be a departure from the country-flavored Highway. "We have to do something different," he insists.
